What Kills You Makes You Stronger

A

Armor still shining, I set off on my long list of missions. First I decided to gather animal parts for a couple Dwarves around the area. I needed Boar Ribs and Beer for a Dwarf by the inn. I also needed Boar meat and some Bear hides. All these animals got me thinking. I remembered seeing a dwarf willing to teach me how to Skin. With this abundance of animals to slay, I might as well make some money off them. I decided to learn how to skin.

Skinning knife in hand, I set off into the dense wilderness and began my fight. I found a boar right away. These animals were a lot tougher than the ones in Coldridge Valley. Nevertheless, I killed one after another until I had nearly enough to fill my bounty.

As I trudged deeper through the snow, a snow leopard lunged out from the shadows. It took me unaware as I fought a large boar. Before I knew it an enormous bear joined the fight. I was simply outnumbered. Bleeding heavily I raised my shield trying to drive back the chaos before me. Soon I couldn’t take any more. I fell backwards and collapsed on the ground.

Suddenly I felt nothing. The cold, the pain had all disappeared. I was far away from it all. Was I dead? Everything around me was in a misty black and white. I heard whispers, though I couldn’t make out what they were telling me. I had way too much to do. I found my body laying limp on the ground.

All at once I got up, filled with an energy both brilliant and monsterous. I charged the bear and snow leopard at once, and savagely stabbed and slashed at both of the animals at the same time. They fell to the ground almost in unison. I wasn’t done yet. I took out my skinning knife and quickly skinned both alive. When it was over I realized what I had done. Nobody asked me to kill these animals, I just did it because I wanted to take revenge. What was I becoming?
