Wanted: Hogger

M

My day in the Elwynn Forest had been quite eventful. After giving Maybell her potion I moved eastward and performed a number of duties for a guard stationed in the far eastern corner. I was exhausted, but wanted to keep moving. The more tasks I completed, the more powerful I became.

As night fell, I ventured west to report to Deputy Rainer, stationed at Westbrook Garrison. As I walked, I thought about those animals I saw people riding around on. All this walking was making me tired. I wondered when I’d be able to have something to carry me through the land. Back in Dun Morough I remembered seeing a bunch of mechanical chicken machines stationed by Steelgrill’s Depot. I’d certainly like one of those.

My daydreaming was cut short when I caught myself walking straight past Westbrook Garrison. I located Deputy Rainer and explained that I was sent here to help. At first Rainer seemed disappointed. It seemed like he was expecting a whole brigade of soldiers. At last he told me what he needed me to do. Groups of creatures called Gnolls have moved in, eastward from Westfall. It was my job to take care of this situation before it got out of hand.

Having dealt with the Kobold infestation with very little resistance, I accepted the challenge. As I headed towards the woods I noticed a large “Wanted” sign with “WANTED: HOGGER”. Reading this sign, it seems this gnoll has been giving the Stormwind Army a great deal of trouble. I decided to take down this Gnoll while I was down there.

The dog-like Gnolls were separated into packs of four or five. Each pack was camped out by a fire as lookouts patrolled around. I decided to wait for a lookout to cross into my path. I patiently waited for the right opportunity and struck. Taken by surprise the Gnoll didn’t put up much of a fight, however just when it was about to collapse it got a burst of energy and ran for help. Now that one Gnoll runt turned into five. It was a long battle, but I conquered all the gnolls, just barely.

Looking beyond the now empty camp I saw him. Hogger was much bigger than the others. Barking orders and keeping his pack in line, It appeared as though he was their leader. He then approached the empty camp and saw the bodies of the five Gnolls I took on. Growling menacingly, he ran towards me. I fought with everything left in me but Hogger was too ravenous for me to handle. I tried to run toward Westbrook Garrison but I couldn’t make it. I fell down, dead. In spirit, I returned to my body and hid behind some bushes. There is no way I could take him on myself.

As I turned around feeling defeated, I heard a high yelp, then a thud. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a flash of red and green. A very powerful Night Elf was in the area with me, and was wreaking havoc though the Gnoll camps. Before I could ask him why he was here and where he came from, he was gone.

Just in front of me I saw what made that horrible noise. Hogger laid before me panting lightly with a severe wound to his side. For a second I took pitty on the beast. I then came to my senses. It was time for a little revenge. I drew my mace and slashed his enormous paw off, then left him there.

When my tasks completed, I returned to Deputy Rainer. I gave him the armbands of the Gnolls I had slain, as well as the giant paw of Hogger. Rainer was shocked to see the paw. I explained that the Night Elf was responsible, but Rainer didn’t seem to care. He gave me my payment and I was done.

I was exhausted, but decided to keep moving.
