Looking across the nearby bridge was the area known as Westfall. Evidently there seemed to be plenty of things to do over there, but something was holding me back. Fighting the Gnolls in the darkness reminded me of the troubles I had way back in Coldridge Valley. I got lost in a tunnel, and got attacked by a group of creatures known as Troggs, just barely making my escape. Back then I was much weaker. If I returned would I fare any better? Before I left Dun Morogh a dwarf asked me to visit a place called Loch Modan to assist some of the locals with a Trogg infestation. I reluctantly agreed to help, but never followed through. Even though I was defeated by Hogger, I was ready to prove myself. These Troggs were responsible for the destruction of my homeland. That is something I will never forget.
Returning to Stormwind, I found the city Gryphon Master, and he sent me on my way to Ironforge. Riding on a giant gryphon was way better than taking public transportation. Looking below me I saw adventurers embarking on dangerous land. I flew over many foreign landscapes, reminding me of how much I still didn’t know about this place. After a relatively short flight, I landed at Ironforge.
I asked the Gryphon Master how to get to Loch Modan, and he told me to follow the path eastward until the snow melted. A little confused, I set off. It was a long, cold, tiring quest but I soon found out what the dwarf meant. As I walked through the South Gate tunnel, I found myself in completely different surroundings. It was as if all the snow had melted all at once, revealing a lush, dense forest. I found my assigned dwarf standing in a nearby outpost. Captain Rugelfuss, as he introduced himself, told me of a growing Trogg threat from within the nearby mountains. I agreed to help.
Venturing into the mountains, I saw Troggs everywhere. Immediately I was filled with the a sense of vengeance. Was this what my fallen people saw before the Troggs invaded Gnomeregan. I immediately took action, fighting the Troggs with everything I had in me.
I returned to Captain Rugelfuss with his bounty of Trogg teeth. Delighted he asked me to return to the hills to take down even more Troggs. The dwarves around him joined in, encouraging me to kill as many Troggs as I could. Empowered by their words I set back into the mountains and continued pushing forward. Walking up a narrow passage, I found a large cave teeming with the viscous animals. These Troggs looked tougher than the ones down below. I yelled and taunted the Troggs and they came running, with a look of death in their eyes. As I fought, a smaller Trogg skulked around the corner. I was surprised to see a bright flash of light coming from within it’s palms. Immediately the smaller Trogg lifted up both hands. With a jerk forward it hurled a crackling ball of electric energy toward me. I threw my shield up and was thrown back by the force. Recovering I stabbed the beast directly through the heart.
I had to take a second to reconsider my stradegy. I could handle larger Troggs, but these smaller Troggs could manipulate electricity. I would have to take them by surprise. As I thought I felt a presence behind me. I turned quick, ready to fight but was startled to see a dwarf standing there silently. Had he been there the whole time? I tried to speak with him, introducing myself but he continued standing there, silently staring. Feeling a little uneasy, I walked past the dwarf, towards a few smaller Troggs. They saw me immediatly, and at once began manifesting electric energy. I tried to fight them off but the electricity was weakening me at every shocking blow. Regaining my stance I felt that same presence. The dwarf came running out from around the corner with his mallet glowing a bright amber. He took down the Troggs effortlessly, blinding them with holy energy.
I tried to thank him, but he never said anything. He just continued on, silently assisting me with my plight. As I looked at all the dead Troggs around me, the dwarf finally spoke. “Are you done?” he asked. I couldn’t find any words. I just nodded slowly. The dwarf then slowly walked back into the forest, never turning back.
After informing the Dwarves that their task was complete, I started walking to the town of Thelsamar. Walking slowly, I tried to make sense of all this. First gold from a mysterious Gnome named Ollo, then some assistance from a Night Elf Rogue at Westbrook Garrison, now this? I couldn’t help but wonder if all of these people were connected somehow.
