The sweltering heat of the desert was overbearing, but I pressed on, with images of greatness cycling through my mind. Every new land presents similar tasks and challenges, but each and every task will bring me that much closer to becoming a true hero of the alliance. My next task was a kind of rescue mission. A goblin explorer set off to survey a large insect hive, but never returned. While I remained optimistic, I knew the likelihood of surviving in such an environment was slim at best.
As night fell in the desert I could feel the air begin to cool. As I made my way over a steep sand dune I saw what appeared to be a series of purple quivering trees strewn about a shallow lake. As I got closer, the trees turned out to be an enormous living hive, swarming with bugs bigger than anything I’d ever seen.
The cavern seemed to go on for miles. I stood over the edge, stunned at what I saw. The center of the hive had a shallow opening. My instinct told me that the surveyor, if he was still alive would be somewhere deep within that cavern, but to get there, I would have to fight my way through hundreds of insects. There was simply no way around it. I had to use brute force to get to the center. I sharpened my axe and ran straight towards the center.
There was a terrible humming sound all over the area. I ducked and dodged stingers from scores of enormous Hazzali Wasps and chopped down everything I could. With the opening in sight I carefully and silently made my approach. Suddenly the ground behind me began to shake. From the oozing purple ground came an enormous Centipaar. I turned around and slashed at it’s dead piercing black eyes. It fell down dead, and from its’ body emerged a swarm of larvae. In an instant I was covered from head to toe with these creeping horrors. As I frantically swept them off I lost my balance and fell towards the opening.

Climbing back to my feet, I found myself inside the humid, slimy nest. Echos of crawling, chirping insects echoed throughout the area. The area was dimly lit by huge flies emitting an orange bioluminescent glow. There was no turning back now. My boots sloshed and stuck to the floor as I moved on. As I carefully made my way through the area I kept a lookout for anything out of the ordinary.
Exploring deeper into the cavern, I eventually made it to a large open pocket. To the far wall, I spotted a mechanical box full of switches and levers. This had to be where the surveyor was working. Wasps flew methodically around in circles around the center of the area. I decided to make a run for the equipment, and was attacked by nearly all the bugs in the area. I used the broken equipment as a shield as I took down the bugs one by one.
After it was over I realized that there was no way anyone could survive in this place without any weapons. I decided to salvage what I could from the wreckage, then return to Gadgetzan. I had enough of this place. Putting my equiptment away I turned around and ran towards the entrance, bringing a swarm of wasps, Centipaars and other nightmarish creatres swarming behind me. They stung and spit at me but I kept running, even faster as I made for my mechanostrider.
I wiped the purple goo off of my face as I rode towards the trade port. This had been quite an eventful day.
