Goodbye Coldridge Valley

O

On the short trek back to Anvilmar, I took some time to think about my journey so far. It seems that overall, the people of these lands don’t do much of anything. From the Dwarves camped out in the snow, to the tribes of Trolls, the natives don’t really have much of a goal. Everyone is just standing around, telling me what to do. Occasionally I saw other travelers much like myself killing animals. I should stop and speak with some of these adventurers.

Felix was glad to have his tools back. He gave me my payment and I was off to kill one last troll. I ran back into the cave and went straight to the back. Like before, the trolls didn’t seem to notice me, not even Grik’nir, my target. So, I took out my sword and after a quick fight, grabbed the journal and headed out. This was too easy. Surely there were more dangerous adventures ahead. In return for his journal, I received a shield and hammer. I found the hammer to be much more suitable than my sword.

I was ready to move on. Deep in my bag I had one last letter. This one was for Mountaineer Thaos, stationed up by a large, run down tunnel. Before I got to him, a Gnome had something for me to do. He had something for me to deliver to a town called Kharanos, but to get there I had to travel through a dangerous tunnel.

Stepping in on our conversation, Thaos cautioned me not to venture through the tunnel, but I had enough of this place. Maybe it was my own stubbornness, or maybe it was this new rush of power, but Ignoring his warning, I stepped into the darkness. Sure enough I saw one of these Troggs he warned me about. It didn’t look any different from the Troggs in the valley, so I walked past. Unlike the others, this creature lunged at me and I grabbed my shield and hammer. I swung as hard as I could, blocking his blows with my shield. By the end of the fight I found myself lost. Which way had I come in? I had to keep moving before more Troggs noticed me.

At last I saw I dim light to the north. This had to be the exit. I quickened my pace. Just as I exited the tunnel, two Troggs followed suit. “One is tough enough!”, I thought to myself. I ran as quickly as I could, just barely outrunning the disgusting beasts. Even though they were far behind me, I kept running.

I decided to stay on the path. According to the Gnome, it lead straight to Kharanos. Sure enough, after a long journey I made it. The dwarf I was looking for seemed to be waiting for me. He snatched up the letter. I was tired. I went into the nearby inn and took a rest.
