Gnomeregan Part One

A

After turning in my bounties and collecting my rewards, I set off to Stormwind to stop at the Auction House to get some better armor. I then went to the Dwarven District to meet with a few Gnomes to find out what could be done about Gnomeregan. According to these refugees, Gnomeregan was in a very bad state, overrun by mutant Troggs and leper gnomes, while a small resistance hid deep within the ruins of the city. They then told me to speak with the Gnomes over in Ironforge for some advice. Taking their instructions, I boarded the Deeprun Tram and arrived at the Gnomish District of Ironforge, Tinkertown. Here I was greeted by the former king of Gnomeregan, High Tinker Mekkatorque.

Mekkatorque was glad to see that I was willing to help, but warned me that there have been many before me, bravely going into the bowels of the dead city. Not one of them made it out alive. He then told me that the only way to even begin to restore Gnomeregan back to it’s former glory was to take down his once trusted advisor, Mekgineer Thermaplugg. Mekkatorque was convinced that this Gnomish Engineer was responsible for allowing the invasion to take place, and now resides in the very bottom of Gnomeregan, at the Tinkers’ Court. My mission was now clear. I had to gather a group together to go through whatever was left of Gnomeregan and dethrone that traitor.

So I left Ironforge on my way down that familiar path to Gnomeregan with a group of adventurers, and at once it all came back to me. Once again I saw the plumes of green smoke spewing from the remains of a once great city, while hundreds of Leper Gnomes patrolled outside. This time, however I wasn’t intimidated. I walked through the entrance and took an elevator down the clockwork path.

Walking down the hall, I was blinded by a rush of memories. I saw my wife, my children, and my friends. I was once a respected Gnomish Engineer. I saw myself working on a large flying machine in the middle of a wide, open  laboratoy bustling with Gnomes busy at work. I then was startled by a glowing green mass. A trogg came rushing towards me. I was suddenly back in the present, defending myself from a hideous mutant Trogg.

Once we defeated the Trogg we took a second to look around our surroundings. A dim green fog had settled on what was left of a once highly advanced, industrialized city. All around us ran hundreds and hundreds of Troggs, while below us lurked green bubbling masses of gelatinous liquid. We had our work cut out for us, but we were not going to back down.

Gnomeregan

Fighting our way through masses of mindless Troggs, we eventually found ourselves at the end of a long dark hallway. From out of the rubble, I heard female say “Are you here to help?”. I looked down to see a small Gnome. Her name was Emi Shortfuse, and she was once a Blastmaster responsible for the expansion of Gnomeregan. She was obviously a bit delusional as she was still bent on getting her job done. Before we had  time to say no, she pushed us aside and let off a large barrel of explosives.

Trogg

From the rubble a mess of Troggs came running. We took them down, and heard a shallow rumble behind us. Suddenly a large Trogg attacked from the back with his slimy pet. We were taken by surprise but managed to defeat the monster. It was clear that Emi was far beyond reason, so reluctantly we left her down there and continued on our way. Looking at the destruction ahead, I knew this could be the biggest challenge I’d ever have to face.
